Dear customers and
friends!
Seth Godin gave me the kick for the
following question: Are we marketing to
strangers or friends? A "friend" isn't
necessarily someone we went to Summer camp with,
it's someone who gives us the benefit of the
doubt. Someone who will listen, at least once, to
our pitch.
This newsletter goes to our in-store and online
customers as well as to those knitters who asked
us for support, patterns or products. Right from
the beginning I conceived our
web site to give visitors the warm
store feel, support and information they can
expect in our real stores, our Needle &
Arts Centre and Pier Street Gallery. Our
yarn blog complements this.
And yes, we had a lot of wonderful and rewarding
contacts over the past years and made a lot of
"friends" and customers locally and online. Our
most powerful win is, though, when you
tell your friends about us. This is worth
1000 times more than us talking about ourself.
Please, forward this
newsletter to a friend (at the
bottom of this email).
This newsletter is not so much about new yarns,
although we
 still
got some more Summer yarns in - see the list of
new yarns in the left column or check our
What's New page. It is more around
patterns, freebies and the Yarn of the
Month special. I still stick to the
headline "Having knitting and crochet fun in tough
times", although it's sure looking a bit brighter
already..
Happy Spring, Happy Mothers Day, and please
let us know what we can do better!
Thank you for your support.

Don't miss out on the opportunities in
May to SAVE money while having fun knitting and
crocheting!

Free Pattern of the Month
First off, Alison discovered this
new site with lots of great free (UK)
patterns, many for Rowan and Debbie Bliss yarns. At
any time, ask us for substitute yarns
by phone or email!
Check out more links to free
patterns!
Now, here is the free
pattern of the month of May:
 Plastic
grocery bags seem to become a thing of the past, but
we still need a way to carry our things in a fun and
functional manner. Meet Alison's
Farmer's Market bag,
which is easy to make and just the right size.
Gauge is not critical for this bag. The open nature
of the stitch is meant to have a lacy look, yet be
firm
enough to hold the contents of the bag in place. The
finished bag is about 13 inches wide and long.
Download the FREE
pattern as a PDF file
here. And order the yarn (or a
substitute yarn)
from us!

More Patterns
First,
you find (and will find) more and more projects
which we do in our store in our
yarn blog. Such as this Capelet/shrug
which Pam knitted. See how beautiful it looks on our
Anna..
From these projects you can really tell that these
garments are not home made but hand made.
Each knitted project is a piece of artwork.
Many more free patterns or sources for free patterns
are being added to our
pattern page.
Second,
we got the Scoop Neck Cardigan from
the Nashua
 "Daylily"
pattern book as a sample garment, and, boy, it's
prettier than a photo can tell. Check out the
Daylily yarn and this pattern
book and others in our
book page!
Lots of projects to choose from and many yarns for
any taste and wallet. This is where our free
consulting comes in: ask us at any time,
one-on-one, in person, on the phone ( toll
free 1-888-588-7834) or by
email. This is what differentiates us
from the big W and Z!

Last but not least
Once again: The Johnstone Strait
Pullover
Many of you downloaded Pam's free
pattern of the month of April.
If you haven't done so, you may click
here.
Pam knitted this cheeky little pullover for
kids sizes 3-10 once
 again
in our wonderful new
Life Aran yarn from
Stylecraft, see photo.
This is a new yarn on our list of very
affordable yarns with Can$ 6.95 for
the 100g ball. Pam used 2.5 balls for this
pullover (this is under $20!).
Part of
Stylecraft's Life series, Aran combines the
beauty of wool with the easy care of acrylic
in soft and sumptuous yarn. It retains the
classic blend of 75% acrylic and 25% wool and
comes in big value 100g balls. The
shade range embraces classic Aran
and 'natural' marl effects,
which are so popular with Aran knitters.
