Dear customers and friends!

The first signs of spring have been noticed here as early as February, and as the warmer weather approaches and the spring flowers are blooming, we can finally say goodbye to the long winter season in Canada!

Classes and Workshops - Update!

Fashion Show: Pam & Penny
Fashion Show
Maggie Jackson's four days in our store, with fashion show, two workshops and a consulting day were exciting and can be considered super successful for all involved. We made plans to have Maggie back with new projects next year!

Her legacy left behind are: several projects started, her yarn lines and books (see article further down). Check our Yarn Blog for a photo report.

Pam offers a Maggiknits knit-along for those who started or are ready to start a Maggiknits project, beginning this week (see below).

Caddy's Sweater knit-along
Caddy's Sweater
Please check the updated class list for Spring/Summer 2010 which already includes the annual Knit in Public and Knit in the Park outings.

Join two new knit-alongs which start this Saturday April 10th (or start 2 weeks later, no problem). First, we have a knit-along for Caddy's Sweater from the Sally Melville Knit Stitch book from 10-12 (see photo left). Pam also offers a second knit-along for your Maggiknits projects from 12:30 to 2:30 the same day.

When these two are over and your projects are finished, we plan a show-and-tell event for all finished knit-along projects inside or outside our store. Check our classes page for news.

The participants of Maggie's workshop, coming from as far as Washington State, and other knitters we had the pleasure to host in our very own B&B over time show us that Campbell River and our Needle & Arts Centre are becoming a knitter's destination.
Plan your vacation or a long weekend around one of our classes. We arrange for accommodation with a knitter's special of $90 incl. brekfast (for 2) and free shuttles.

We found: All about Vegetable Fibres

We found this to be an interesting article in a Knitting Daily newsletter. It's from renowned designer Shirley Paden who has just
Berroco Bonsai (Bamboo)
Berroco Bonsai

come out with a new book, Knitwear Design Workshop: A Comprehensive Guide to Handknits. Valuable information on natural fibres from Cotton, Linen, Bamboo to Ramie, Jute, Hemp and Sisal.

Linen (Flax), one of the oldest known textile fibers, is derived from the stem of the flax plant. Linen is sturdy and durable, and like cotton, is comfortable to wear in hot climates because it draws moisture away from the body. It is also easily laundered and moth and perspiration resistant... Read article>>

Many New Yarns and Books

With Maggie Jackson end of March came 9 of her top quality and unique Maggiknits yarn lines - from Irish Linen, Cotton and Tweeds to Mohair and Angora. Textures and shades more or less hand picked and designed by herself. Find these and other new Spring/Summer arrivals in our News Page. With this came a load of Maggie's knitting kits (contact us).

Squares and Frills
Maggie Book
We already carried her magical book "Maggie's Ireland". Now we added 12 more, full of her trademark designs. And - they sold out pretty quick; the new shipment is on its way. Get a piece of her creativity and choose your necessary yarns with the support from our staff! You find the reasonably priced books in our Book Page.

If you are looking for yarns of a special weight or for a specific project or from a certain manufacturer or just want to check the price of a yarn, you best visit our web pages of all available yarns, sorted by name, by manufacturer, by weight, or by project.

"Because I can!"

Alison found this via Ravelry, and thought it might be fun to read.
Brian at work at shows
Because I can

It's from the Skacel blog, and about a guy who decided to knit 14 socks with seven different patterns, one for each day of the week, at the same time on the World's longest Addi Turbo (120 inches).  It follows him from the beginning until he gets all the socks done.  He does, in fact, do it! Here's the link. Because of the nature of the blog, the story goes in reverse order, so the actual beginning of his adventure is on the second page.  Pretty cool!

We find Addi Turbo circulars to be the top quality circular needles you can find. Not cheap, but smooth in transition and good for the joints. No twisting of the cables either. And of course, we carry the Addi Click sets as well. Ask for prices!

Last but not least

For our Needlework customers: Five brand new counted cross stitch patterns have been added to the Sue Coleman Cross Stitch Gallery
Chickadee Cross Stitch
Chickadee

Sue Coleman earned an international recognition for her distinctive watercolours. Especially popular have been her 'Interpretive' Northwest Coast Indian paintings. These have been reproduced in limited edition print series and have sold to collectors worldwide.

Sue Coleman's watercolours have been transfered into unique works in cross stitch. We carry this growing gallery  for some years now and just added five beautiful new patterns which you find on our Needlework Page. Plus, we supply you with the necessary material and floss - ask us for package prices!
