Greetings!
beautification

It's been a while since my last newsletter and many good things happened since. Tourists come in numbers now from all over the world. The area of town where our shops are located is the historical root of Campbell River, and our merchant association, the Pier Street Association, revitalized it during the past eight years with murals, clean-up, flower barrels and driftwood pilings. This kicked off a beautification effort all over town so that we finally entered the "Communities in Bloom" competition. Last week we had the judges in town. Not only are we proud how nicely groomed everything looks, but it seems that the judges were impressed as well. Cross the fingers!

This issue goes again to ALL contacts in the database and we have something new in store for all of you. Later on we'll have separate newsletters for the different interest groups! Enjoy and browse our web site!

Knitting in the Park
National Knit in the Park is August 12!
Our Robert Ostler Park right along the shore line is just across from our store - join us on August 12 to have a good chat and chuckle, and to knit one or more Afghans together for our residents in need at the Yucalta Lodge. Each of you can knit one or more strips or squares. You may bring your own folding chair or blanket and needles - if at hand. Our store provides the yarns, needles (if needed), chairs, tables, umbrellas/tents where needed and Iced Tea and water as refreshments. Sounds like fun? Come join us any time between 11 AM and 4 PM (would be nice if you drop us an email or call before). Do you want to join us and don't knit yet? Get a free knitting lesson in the park!

For those of you from out of town: Our Maritime Heritage Centre will host the first ever Discovery Passage Boat Rodeo on August 12 and 13. Stay here for the weekend and take in the maneuvering of tugboats, Tyee rowboats and others.
Inka pattern
Hard to keep track with all the new yarns and patterns arriving these days and in the weeks to come for Fall and Winter knitting. Wow, what beautiful colours! Best to be informed is to visit our Yarn Blog often, as Pam adds new posts as soon as she has a hand on a new yarn.

Here is what is already in: Drops inka (see photo to the left, wonderful colours!); Drops ICE; baby yarn King Cole Candy DK; new colours for Drops ESKIMO and ALPACA; new yarns from Zitron: Loft and fil á fil; new colours for Lang's TONGA LAMĒ; pretty new colours for Patons Shetland Chunky; Merino Lace from Skacel; new sock yarn colours from Lana Grossa Meilenweit and Trekking.
Marta's Regata
We always carried a good selection of local native artwork in our gallery. Now we have started with Connie Dicken's artwork in an extra page for West Coast Native Art on our web site.

Have a look at the colourful prints of Dianne Bersea from Cortes Island. Dianne is enthralled by the colour, diversity and magic of our coastal wild places.
There is always new artwork coming in; please check Marta's new Regata print (Giclée on canvas, picture to the right) and all her other available Giclées.
Sue Coleman Eagle
These are truly local cross stitch patterns!
Sue Coleman earned international recognition for her distinctive watercolours. Especially popular have been her ‘Interpretive’ Northwest Coast Indian paintings. These have been reproduced in a limited edition print series and have sold to collectors worldwide.
Sue Coleman maintains a studio in Metchosin on Vancouver Island, Canada and paints a variety of subjects from misty west-coast scenes, wildlife, landscapes and more. Sue actively works to promote environmental awareness and wildlife conservation.
Now Sue Coleman’s watercolours have been transfered into unique works in cross stitch. See the list of available Coleman Cross Stitch Patterns. We supply you with the additional material and floss - ask us for package prices!
Christina's Pottery
Last Saturday we visited the "Market in the Park" on Saltspring Island and enjoyed the ambience of this established market and the diversity of the 160 vendors. The new market manager showed us around so that we went home with many impressions and ideas for our own Pier Street Farmers Market here.
On our way back we picked up new prints from Carol Haigh on Saltspring and A LOT of functional pottery from Christina in Nanaimo. Come visit the markets on the Island and see our variety of Island Pottery we carry in our store!

Don't miss our Knit in the Park on August 12! Now, meet you in our store or over in our Needle & Art web site.
As always:

Come in - Relax - Enjoy!
