Greetings!
shops

Dear customers, friends, business neighbours and friendly bystanders! Spring greetings from all of us at the Needle & Arts Centre and Pier Street Gallery in beautiful Campbell River, BC.

This is our first issue of our "Pier Street Pebbles", where we strive to hand pick worth while product and news pebbles for you.
In this issue we want to bring a face back to those who shopped here years ago as well as to those who signed up without ever meeting us. Future newsletters will be more specifically focussing on your interests.
Enjoy reading!

Jurgen
This is Jurgen, your pebble collector, web master, sometimes Inge calls me "stock boy", ... and model as you see! I love what I'm doing compared to "way way back", which means about 40 plus years back, when I worked in computer related industries.
Only about 20 years back ("way back") I started to mail out 10-page 4-colour semi glossy newsletters to my customer base, this was back in Germany, and everybody liked our "Isar Kiesel" which means pebbles from the river Isar where we lived at this time. What an expensive excercise this type of newsletter was.

Now we are excited that we finally take the step and use the new technology to better communicate with you, our customers. Our new Needle & Art web site was the start. Expect an e-commerce Yarn Shop and e-commerce Gallery to come this Summer.

This is a real SPECIAL and you might even make use of it for the upcoming Mothers Day:
Get 10% discount on all online orders up to and including May 14. Plus, the first three orders with a minimum order of $50 which we receive after this mail-out receive a Gift Certificate of $30 for future orders!
Inge
We heard two days ago that Inge and her Needle & Arts Centre are nominated for the Chamber of Commerce Excellence Award in the category of Small Businesses. This is great!
Inge has been either a business woman or a busy mom all her life. 1995, just one year after she immigrated with her family from Germany, she took over The Framing Post and started her career as a creative and artistic custom picture framer. Word of mouth made her business grow and this is her motto: “At The Framing Post in Campbell River, you find an innovative, highly creative, affordable framing service for pictures and needlework, personalized to your taste and budget. The Framing Post, the Art of Quality!”

In 1999, Inge added the Needle & Arts Centre in the adjacent premises and rounded up an established all- in-one art and craft place, unique in Western Canada. Needlework and tole painting supplies, functional pottery and craft items complement the growing yarn department. The Yarn Department of the Needle & Arts Centre expanded to become the yarn store with one of the biggest selections of quality yarns on the Island. Supported by several highly qualified knitting and needlework consultants, Inge offers drop-ins and crochet consulting every day.

In the nomination questionnaire we were asked what highlights, activities, challenges, achievements, innovations or changes have made the past year special for our organization. There was a lot happening, here is the list:
Introduction of the Knit Café as a shopping experience; introduction of a department for Rattan and Wicker furniture; development of a web site and several blogs for better customer access and communication; expansion of the yarn product range to be the biggest on North Vancouver Island with more than 170 yarns; expansion of the number of local potters represented; expansion of staff in the Yarn Department; introduction of BiteSize pickles and Jellies as a delicacy.
There has never been a lack of ideas here!
Knit Cafe
Come in for a free coffee or tea, knit, crochet, work on your Needlework - and chat, too! You may even rent needles for $2 (proceeds going to a local charity); you get a first free lesson with the purchase of yarn. But this in not all.

Regular lessons are $5 if you bought your yarn in our store or $10 if you bring your own yarn. Make use of the free refence Library in English, German and Norwegian. You may also browse our large selection Knitting Magazines laid out for your leisure!
Salmon Plate
We just brought in the "Salmon Run" series of Artables' Coastal Treasures, more coastal designs are ordered: Lighthouse, Orca, Mussels, Shrimp and Crab.
All products are boxed in solid crates with "Campbell River, BC" burnt in. Debra Durrer from Calgary has hand crafted this beautiful decorative and functional pottery - her motto is "Where Art and Table Meet".
Se more in our Functional Pottery page!
This is important: each design comes in (the same) over 40 different shapes and sizes.
Hancock Heron
Allan is not new to our gallery. Our customers like his portrayals of breath-taking, beautiful, yet fragile habitats and wildlife species. Allan supports the conservation and preservation efforts of various organizations and was awarded Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year several times.
Read more about the artist in our Gallery Blog.

This painting is called "Shoreline Search - Blue Heron" and available as a print - unframed or framed.
Find more of his prints in our Gallery Page.
Rattan Furniture
Our Rattan and Wicker furniture is beautiful indoors or on the patio, it's light, solid, good quality and affordable. You see here to the left only one of the lines on display in our store. See more furniture products in our Furniture Page. You have an extensive choice of cushion fabrics - also online.
This is cool: Free delivery of furniture to destinations on Vancouver Island!
You'll find not only furniture groups but also cozy rocking and hi-back armchairs and Rattan drawers.

Now, meet you over in our Needle & Art web site and we hope you make use of this week's special and check us out - online!
As always:

Come in - Relax - Enjoy!
