New England Shetland

from Harrisville Designs

A 100% wool yarn that knits up to most worsted and aran patterns. Each 50g skein has 217yds (1,800yds/lb).

recommended needle sizes: #2-4 or 2.75-3.5mm

recommended gauge: 6 1/2 st. per in.

We now offer this Harrisville Shetland yarn in a finer, sportsweight yarn, compared to the worsted weight Highland yarn which we carried for some time already. We discovered this this finer weight version in the same heathered colours thanks to a recent workshop with Miriam Leth-Espensen. This weight is perfect for lighter weight sweaters, hats, gloves, even socks. It's 100% wool wears well and comes in a nice range of heathered colours.

This Leaf and Lattice Pullover is knit in New England Shetland (pattern can be ordered).

Knitting With Harrisville's Classic Yarns

Our New England Shetland and New England Highland yarns are available as washed skeins and were developed especially for knitters. The majority of knitting yarns on the market today are spun first and then skein dyed. During the dyeing process they achieve a degree of fulling or fluffing up that our dyed-in-the-wool yarns on cones do not have. We skein our New England Shetland and New England Highland yarns and then wash them to give them that special, softer knitting finish.
