knit one below
Knit One Below - by Elise Duvekot
The bright idea behind this book with 35 patterns for the entire family is to build an entire collection around one simple stitch that creates many intriguing effects. Shown in knitting instructions as "k1b" (knit 1 below), the technique involves knitting into the stitch one row below the stitch on the needle with either a knit or a purl stitch. The result is an easy-to-knit fabric with wonderful drape and flexibility that looks equally good on both sides. The color effects possible are also impressive.

New Pathways for Sock Knitters: Book One
Cat Bordhi: New Pathways for Sock Knitters, Book One
Cat Bordhi has the unique ability to see in an object something completely different from what you or I may see. The arch stitches in socks don't need to go where we've always put them. With a little understanding, you can put those stitches anywhere within the arch area - for example, in an orderly column or placed randomly - with equally successful results. Bordhi outlines eight sock architectures based on this principle, with master patterns that can be customized for any foot, yarn type, or needle, in any size ranging from infant to large adult.

A Treasury of Magical Knitting

Cat Bordhi: A Treasury of Magical Knitting

All 33 projects start out as a Moebius scarf, which begin with a unique cast-on so simple that it can be done behind your back. After that, every stitch is set to rotate into place, ready to be knit, on and on until the scarf is ready to bind off. There are no wrong turns to take in the land of Magical Knitting, so you are home safe.

The book begins with scarves, which lead naturally into hats, then into felted fringed boots with Moebius bootstraps, and finally into capes. Cat's trademark clarity, thoroughness, and sense of humor make this book perfect for new knitters as well as the most experienced.

A Second Treasury of Magical Knitting
Cat Bordhi: A Second Treasury of Magical Knitting
Beginning with Cat's unique Moebius Cast-On, which is so easy that she usually demonstrates it in workshops behind her back while twirling slowly around on one foot, the reader first learns to knit a Moebius band, or scarf. This is the magic key that opens the way to all the other designs. The Second Treasury includes felted baskets (with no inside or outside!), felted fringed bowls, felted and unfelted sling bags, six different felted cat beds (one with paws and a tail!), and the trifold designs, including a knitter's bowl with pockets for tools and a place to keep working yarn away from playful felines. The Felted Needle Cozies, colorful, highly textured sheaths to hold straight needles, and the felted wallets are both excellent patterns for beginners and first-time felters.

Novel: The Friday Night Knitting Club
Kate Jacobs: The Friday Night Knitting Club - a novel
As a single mom in her late 30s, Georgia has her hands full juggling the demands of running the Walker & Daughter knitting store with the challenges of raising her spunky teen daughter, Dakota. Georgia’s regular customers gather once a week to work on their latest projects and chat – and occasionally clash – about love, life, and everything else. The members of the Friday Night Knitting Club are as varied as the skeins of yarn in the shop’s bins. There’s Peri, a pre-law student turned handbag designer; Anita, a silver-haired uptown matron; Darwin, a somewhat aloof grad student; K.C., an out-of-work editor looking for inspiration, and Lucie, a petite television producer with a few surprises up her sleeve. But soon their quiet Friday nights are shaken up...
"An absolutely beautiful, deeply moving portrait of female friendship. You'll laugh and cry along with these characters, ..." Kristin Hannah

The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques
Nancie M. Wiseman: The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques
This book is perfect for the beginner or advanced knitter. I have been knitting for over 50 years and yet learned a lot from it. I recommended it to someone I was teaching to knit. With it, even her first sweater will look good. The directions are extremely clear, as are the illustrations. The author even gives the advantages and disadvantages of each technique. It includes instructions to improve those ugly stepped shoulder seams. A sloped shoulder seam is important for a good fit, but I often did not do them because they look so sloppy. This is the one book I don't keep in my bookcase. It is in my knitting bag with my current project. (Reviewer)
