Born August 11, 1937, Zolan began drawing at an early age, completing his first oil painting at the age of 8. A graduate of Chicago's American Academy of Art, he began his career apprenticing under the famous Chicago illustrator Haddon Sunbloom. As Donald's reputation grew as a distinguished portrait artist, his precious paintings of children earned him global fame.

Sadly, we lost this celebrated artist when he passed away on July 20, 2009 with his wife Jennifer at his side. He will long be remembered as America's beloved painter of children and now, also, in many future works of cross stitch.
